What actually happened
More against than in favour. It passed anyway.
On 9 July 2026 the European Parliament extended the scanning of private messages (so-called “Chat Control 1.0”) until 3 April 2028. Even though more MEPs voted against than in favour, rejecting the text required an absolute majority of 361 seats — which was not reached. So the law passed thanks to a procedural loophole and an urgency procedure squeezed in before the summer recess.
The European Commission proposes the CSAR regulation: an obligation for platforms to look for illegal material by scanning users’ content.
Parliament narrows the proposal and tries to protect end-to-end encryption. It looks like a win for privacy.
Deadlock in the EU Council: Belgium, Hungary and Poland fail, Germany hits the brakes. No agreement.
Using an urgency procedure, Parliament extends “voluntary” scanning until 2028, despite more votes against than in favour.
“Chat Control 2.0” is still being negotiated: it includes detection orders and client-side scanning. It is the gravest threat to encryption.
Two faces of the same law

Lets platforms voluntarily scan messages, emails and photos. For now end-to-end encrypted services are excluded — but the door is ajar.
Chat Control 2.0
Wants to make scanning mandatory with “detection orders” and client-side scanning: it would open a backdoor inside everyone’s end-to-end encryption.
Why it is dangerous
Mass surveillance
Monitoring the communications of every citizen, guilty or innocent, means treating everyone as a suspect. A free society doesn't work that way.
It breaks encryption
Client-side scanning turns your phone into a spy: end-to-end encryption becomes a façade, and every backdoor is a door left open to criminals too.
False positives
Fallible algorithms can flag entirely innocent family photos to the authorities, with no reliable human review. The harm is real and irreversible.
Your data stays yours. Full stop.
InVibee will never install backdoors and will never hand over its users’ data to the European Union or any government. Your freedom and your privacy come before any political pressure.

Verify your profile with SPID or CIE, the national digital identity: the badge certifies real people. Fewer bots, fewer fake profiles, more trust in who you meet.
No identity document is ever stored: verification happens through the national provider.
